State of the Abby-OOC
State of the Abby

Me babbling:

I have two thoughts on the way to have a muse journal for prompts and role-playing. Keep it canon and going AU.

I like the ability to keep up with current canon on the show, it means there is always something to explore and expand on (and once back into production there will be new, fresh things to kick around). There is also the fun of having someone who writes another fandom character in character and keeps him canon. [livejournal.com profile] dr_luka_kovac (and mun) have made playing a canon Abby great. If you read both journals you can see the events on the show filtered through two different characters.

Going AU is just fun as a writer and a fan of more than one show. And there’s a new level of challenge there to pick and choose which parts of canon will mesh with someone else’s. It’s also less of a challenge in some ways with Abby because it’s freeing to have her not tied to another character if I go AU (in current canon, for those who do not watch the show, she’d married) and explore the what ifs with the character.

Being in character in either place is something I try hard to do. Keeping Abby’s “voice” as I write here is my main focus, I think. She’s not me and I wouldn’t do or say half the things she does. This means it’s not always easy to write her, but I like that.

The stuff actually useful to other muses/muns:

I’m going to be better at labeling posts for Abby. Canon or AU (and any mun info that may be helpful). I all ready do this somewhat with tags, but I think it’s easier to make it more clear in the post title? Maybe? What do you prefer? It’s all straight in my head, I just want it to be easier for readers/other muses.

—Abby’s on a bit of a hold here until after the writer’s strike but she’s gone through rehab and is on her way to Croatia (hope she’s not getting airsick on the world’s longest transatlantic flight) to reunite with her husband and son. Anything in this timeline will have CANON in the title and possibly a signifier as to when in canon (past or present) since I do hop around in her history to answer prompts/RP scenes.

—I’ve taken Abby from season 11 of ER for an AU timeline. It was an interesting and transitional year for her on the show for a lot of reasons so I thought it would be a good place to jump off the canon boat. Abby’s contemplating a change of scenery to complete her residency somewhere other than Chicago. Let’s face it, since being at County an awful lot of terrible things have happened to her (and her coworkers). She’d like to work some place maybe a little safer. Anything in this timeline will have AU in the timeline.

And this is the part I’ve been thinking a lot about: A couple of muses Abby talks to are decidedly in her AU timeline. The rest of you it’s been kinda whatever worked at the moment. What I’d like to know (to make things easier for me) is if you or your muse has a preference. Would you/they rather interact with AU Abby (intern, single, transitional place in life, recovering alcoholic) Or Canon Abby (4th year resident, married, mother, fresh out of rehab). Or if you don’t really care, that’s good to know too.

I’ll shut up now.

Five and I rather like the thought of AU!Abby, as I think I've said ... mostly because, well, he's the Doctor. He likes to meddle quietly in people's lives and nudge them through their problems in that sneaky way he has. ;D Not that he'd ever admit it aloud.

...Are you dropping WM, then?
[identity profile] abbytude.livejournal.com on February 3rd, 2008 11:27 pm (UTC)
AU!Abby seems to think aliens and time travelers are par for the course, though Five does give her a headache.

I am dropping WM, being all over the place just made me feel--all over the place. I pulled Abby out of all but two prompt communities and may still drop TM, I'm not sure yet. I hope she can still 'play' with your Five though. She and I are fond of 'John Smith'.

Of course she can! The more the merrier. :D

First off, thank you for the compliments to Luka and how I interpret him. As you know I was hesitant at first with entering into another rp relationship with him, however, I have found that he and your Abby seem to be finding their places alongside each other in the various time-lines we're playing them. So, while I will miss hearing your Abby's voice in the WM prompts, here's hoping that in time you'll find your way back, especially as you get more comfortable and find time allows you to once more expand her wings.

You really do a great job with filling in Luka's complex back story and you keep it consistent. You took what was on the show and filled in the gaps.

I'll have to wait and see with what I'm doing with the prompt communities, like I told Five mun, I may still drop TM too. Only so many hours in a day.

I also wanted to say that while Abby and Luka have been keeping things canon, if you want to let them interact in the AU timeline, since it's basically season 11, I'm fine with that too. Completely up to you, I didn't want you to think I was excluding him from commenting anywhere.

That's cool, I like the idea of playing around with their early relationship, and the way we are interweaving what we saw with what might have happened in between. I also like the play we are exploring in Desperate Screen and the County General, you are staying in DS aren't you, since it is just an rp room setting and requires no prompts?
[identity profile] abbytude.livejournal.com on February 4th, 2008 12:46 am (UTC)
I actually dropped DS as part of the Keep It Simple, Stupid, thing I have going on. I don't have a problem with starting an AU Luka/Abby thread somewhere that picks up that story though.
[identity profile] dr-luka-kovac.livejournal.com on February 4th, 2008 12:51 am (UTC)
Bummer on the loss of her in DS, that was going to be interesting for Luka and Joe to deal with the different Abby, oh, well, will have to find someone new for him to connect with there.

I wouldn't mind opening a thread maybe in Abby's journal for the beginning of their first relationship, say right after he killed the mugger and she went to see him at his hotel? The reason I say in hers is that we have the malaria one in his and the Ames in the Hospital...but we can open it in his if it's easier, your call.

I'll get around to posting one from around Benton Backwards/Flight of Fancy. I want to rewatch FoF first, I haven't seen it in a while.
[identity profile] dr-luka-kovac.livejournal.com on February 4th, 2008 12:56 am (UTC)
That's cool...no rush.

In the hospital, we can move ahead and have Luka go to surgery btw, then if you want to do a post of her in the waiting-room or observation area watching before he goes to recovery. Then we can post in in recovery to jump things ahead, he'll get to go home the next day.

Aw, you're thinking about withdrawing her from TM? This is why I went to TM and only TM so I wouldn't ever have this dilemma, heheh.

Anyway, if you don't stay in TM, I hope Abby and Murphy can still interact, and I guess I wouldn't really care which Abby it was. I think she's been ineracting with AU Abby so far, has she not?
[identity profile] abbytude.livejournal.com on February 4th, 2008 01:29 am (UTC)
You're smarter than me.

And yes, of course Abby will still interact with Murphy no matter what. Yeah Abby's been pretty AU with Murphy, she can stay that way, doesn't matter to me either. I'm pretty go with the flow.
[identity profile] heythereslugger.livejournal.com on February 4th, 2008 01:34 am (UTC)
Haha, no, just petrified of taking too much on!

Cool, cool. I'm pretty go with the flow, too. :)

I understand the need to simplify. It's nice to see you giving some thought to that and deciding which places are more important for you to keep her in and letting the others go, rather than just trying to keep up with too much and getting burnt out (not to mention confused!).

She and Ani don't interact much but I hope you don't mind him occasionally tossing some remarks her way, I suppose more in the canon timeline. I like to jump around in Ani's canon sometimes but as I don't do much roleplaying with him it hasn't been a problem for me. Yet!
[identity profile] abbytude.livejournal.com on February 5th, 2008 07:34 pm (UTC)
I don't mind at all :)
